SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme)

Building sites are dangerous places and therefore the need for rigorous health and safety training is ever present. As a result the amount of legislation that affects the way that construction sites are managed is continuing to rise. On the front line of this industry are the Site Supervisors and they are the people who are responsible for interpreting and following the relevant legislation as it comes through. The Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme forms part of the Construction Skills (CITB) Site Safety Plus range of courses which are highly thought of in the construction industry and recognised as being the best quality of qualification for SSSTS Training.

The SSSTS training is designed for site supervisors who are in charge of looking after health and safety on site on a daily basis. The training aims to provide the effective skills and essential information necessary to carry out the supervisor role successfully and see that candidates are compliant with up to date legislation. The qualification satisfy's the specification detailed within the UKCG Supervisor Training Standard'.

On the two day training programme, supervisors will gain valuable knowledge regarding their legal responsibilities whilst conducting duties on site, the course also provides an improved knowledge of health, safety, environmental and welfare issues. The necessity of promoting and encouraging health and safety at work in order to manage effectively will be highlighted. Candidates should be either already in or due to adopt supervisory responsibilities and the course aim is to provide supervisors with the relevant knowledge and skills required to supervise sites carefully.

A variety of health and safety matters significant to the site managers role are examined within the course, including; The supervisors role, Health & Safety Law & Enforcement, Safe Systems of Work, Risk Assessment & Method Statements Principles of Prevention and Health & Safety Management

To qualify for the Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) accreditation, course candidates are required to pass an end of course examination as well as continuous assessment during interactive sessions. Certification is valid for 5 years, however there are likely to be continuing updates in legislation, environmental management and technology so it is recommended that refresher courses are sat within 3 years of sitting the initial course. Contact your course provider to find out about these to find out more about this when the time comes to attend your refresher course to get the latest information available.

This course should not be confused with the Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) course which is a 5 day training course aimed at site managers. This would be the next course to move onto to doing but only once you have completed successfuly the SSSTS training.
