How to Shop for Corporate Gifts

You have been put in charge of finding corporate gifts, or have a small business of your own and think you might be able to use gifts of some sort. The problem is you aren't quite sure how to go about selecting the best gifts for your business. There are many websites offering a variety of personalized gifts for corporate use, but how do you know which ones will be the best pick for your budget and your purposes?

The first step to picking the best corporate gifts is to give some thought to your reasons for making this purchase. Answer all of these questions before you buy anything:

1. Who will you be handing these corporate gifts out to?
2. When and where will you be distributing the gifts?
3. What do you hope the gifts will do for your recipients?
4. What is your budget for this order?
5. About how many people would you like to give gifts to with this one purchase?

The most important thing to consider is the very first question. You want your corporate gifts to suit the ideal recipient. This would be your ideal customer or client, previous customers or clients, or perhaps your employees. You have to know who you are shopping for, just as you would think of who you were shopping for with a personal gift.

Your corporate gift should be something functional, which your recipients will actually be able to use. It might not be something they use every day, but it should be something related to your business or related to something you know about your ideal or previous customers.

For example, if you are promoting your handmade bow business, you might give out hair bow holders that have been personalized with your business logo. This is something that people who buy bows for the hair would have a functional use for, and every time they get a bow from your holder they will think of you and all the other bows they would like to purchase.

You should also give some thought to when you will be handing out these corporate gifts. You might choose something different to hand out at a trade show than you would to send with purchases from actual customers. One use is to draw in new customers, while the second use is to show appreciation to current and hopefully returning customers. Two different purchases, so you might choose two different corporate gifts.

While your budget has to be taken into consideration, you should never purchase corporate gifts in bulk just because they are super cheap. In many cases, no one will want them and your money will be wasted as they get dropped into the trash can or turned down completely. It is better to spend a little more on something with a functional use and decent quality. You get more for your money as the items are appreciated, used, and later serve their purpose of reminding others of your business.
